So you’ve spent countless hours drawing pages, writing dialogue, questioning your life choices at 3 a.m., and lovingly bringing your story into existence.
Congratulations, Stranger. You now have a comic.
The next question is one every indie creator eventually faces:
Should I publish on Webtoon or GlobalComix?
As someone who spends a lot of time around artists, VTubers, writers, and other wonderfully strange creative humans, I’ve seen this question come up again and again. Both platforms can be valuable tools, but they serve somewhat different purposes.
The good news? This isn’t necessarily an either-or decision.
Let’s break down the strengths, weaknesses, and realities of each platform.
If your goal is:
Maximum audience growth: Start with Webtoon.
Better monetization options for small creators: Consider GlobalComix.
Traditional comics and manga page layouts: GlobalComix.
Vertical-scroll webcomics: Webtoon or GlobalComix.
Professional publisher exposure: Both have opportunities, but Webtoon currently has the larger mainstream audience.
Many successful creators simply publish on both.
WEBTOON Canvas is one of the largest webcomic platforms in the world, with millions of readers actively browsing comics every day. The platform is heavily optimized for mobile reading and vertical-scroll storytelling.
For many artists, Webtoon is the first place they think of when publishing a comic online.
Why?
Because that’s where the readers are.
A large audience means more opportunities to be discovered, more chances to go viral, and more potential subscribers if your series resonates with people.
Think of Webtoon as the YouTube of webcomics.
It’s crowded.
It’s competitive.
But the audience is enormous.
Let’s be honest.
A comic with 20 readers and excellent monetization tools still only has 20 readers.
Webtoon’s greatest strength is that it already has a massive ecosystem of people actively searching for new stories.
Readers browse:
This means your comic has a chance to be discovered organically.
That doesn’t guarantee success, of course.
But it does mean your comic is swimming in a much larger pond. IF you can keep up with the weekly posts their algorithm demands from you.
And I do mean everyone.
Thousands of comics launch every year.
Getting noticed can be incredibly difficult.
Many creators discover that simply uploading pages isn’t enough. Marketing, social media, community building, and consistency become just as important as the comic itself.
Webtoon also gates some of its monetization programs behind subscriber and viewership requirements.
For example, creators must reach certain thresholds before qualifying for ad revenue programs. Viewer Ads require at least 1,000 subscribers and 40,000 monthly page views, while Reward Ads require even higher traffic levels.
This means newer creators often spend a significant amount of time building an audience before earning meaningful revenue.
GlobalComix is a newer platform that has steadily gained popularity among indie creators, manga artists, and traditional comic publishers.
Unlike Webtoon, which was designed primarily around vertical-scroll comics, GlobalComix supports both traditional page-based comics and webcomic formats.
This makes it particularly attractive for creators producing:
In other words, it gives creators a bit more flexibility.
This is where things get interesting.
GlobalComix offers multiple monetization methods including:
One particularly creator-friendly feature is that creators can earn subscription revenue even when offering free previews of their work, as long as part of the series is behind a paywall.
In practice, this means smaller creators may have more ways to earn support without first hitting massive audience milestones.
That’s a big deal.
Especially for indie artists.
GlobalComix has been growing steadily, but it simply doesn’t have the same mainstream reader base as Webtoon.
This means:
It’s often easier to stand out, but you may need to do more work bringing your audience to the platform yourself.
Think of it like opening a boutique shop on a charming side street versus opening one inside a giant shopping mall.
The boutique may offer better profit margins.
The mall has more foot traffic.
Both models can work.
This is where GlobalComix has a surprisingly strong advantage.
Traditional manga page layouts often feel much more natural on GlobalComix because the platform was designed to support both page-based and vertical reading formats. See for yourself, by taking a quick peek at our very own Manga on GlobalComix, Maiden in Disguise: New Game!
Meanwhile, Webtoon readers generally expect the vertical-scroll format.
Can manga succeed on Webtoon?
Absolutely.
Many creators adapt traditional pages into scrolling episodes.
But if your comic was designed for print or traditional manga reading, GlobalComix may require fewer compromises.
At the end of the day it is not just webtoon vs globalcomix. Here’s the reality that many comic creators don’t want to hear:
Neither platform should be your entire business plan.
Most successful indie comic creators build a broader ecosystem:
Many creators in community discussions report that audience-building platforms often generate more value than ad revenue alone.
Your comic is often the gateway.
The community you build around it is where long-term sustainability happens.
If you’re an indie creator in 2025, I honestly wouldn’t choose only one.
Publish on:
For weekly discoverability and audience growth.
For additional monetization options and format flexibility.
Your comic can exist in multiple places.
Your readers certainly do.
The internet is vast, and readers consume content differently depending on where they spend their time.
The more doors you leave open, the more opportunities people have to discover your work.
Of course, before you can decide whether to publish on Webtoon or GlobalComix, you need something to publish in the first place.
If you have a story idea but can’t draw, or you’re looking to level up your existing comic, that’s where we come in.

As an alien who has spent many years observing humans and their strange creative rituals, I’ve noticed one thing:
Creators often spend more time worrying about where to publish than actually publishing.
The perfect platform doesn’t exist.
The perfect time doesn’t exist.
The perfect launch doesn’t exist.
What matters is getting your story out into the universe.
Whether you choose Webtoon, GlobalComix, or both, the most important thing is consistency, improvement, and building genuine connections with your readers.
The platform is the spaceship.
Your story is the fuel.
And if your story is good enough, people will gladly climb aboard.
Stay strange,
