What trends can we expect to see in the Vtubing Community 2023?
Well, It’s difficult for me to predict what trends will emerge in the world of virtual YouTubers (vtubers) in 2023, as the internet is constantly evolving and new trends can develop and arise unexpectedly. Whoever, we can make some fun guesses about the year to come!
The use of motion capture technology (Like Vbridger) to create more realistic and immersive virtual performances has been on the rise. This is a personal favorite, as it makes for some very super cute rigged models! Just like this wonderful work from @SmoothShading on Twitter!
As this year kicked off I noticed a fun trend popping up on the Twitter feeds of Hololive Production (#hololive), Kiramune Music (#kiramune), and PRISM where they made life-size cardboard cut-outs (Standee) of their most popular Vtubers. Many indie creators have joined in the fun of seeing their Vtuber personas true to size! Though, from what I have seen, Nijisanji (#nijisanji) has been behind the curve in picking up this fun trend.
Last year we saw a HUGE migration of Vtubers dressing up as Padoru for Christmas. This year, the dress-up trend has taken a turn for the Ecchi! Yep, the year we have all been waiting for is here, “Year of the Bunny Girl” and it is everything, I Bepin~chan, could have hoped for! With the Lunar New Year right around the corner, this trend has only seen an uptick in sexy bunny girl vtuber art. Bless~

Ok, this one has been around for a few months now, but the simple beauty of this trend makes it worth mentioning. Indie Vtubers on Twitter have been creating moc magazine covers that mimic real Japanese Vtubing magazines and the results are simply lovely!
There has been a HUGE uptick in Vtuber Merchandise over the holiday season and this is one ball that is not going to stop rolling any time soon! From Hololive’s official merch shop, to small studios like Kawa’s big merch boom, to indie Vcreators with Etsy shops, the merch train is a rolling~ Heck, even we here at iiiSekai Studios have Vtuber Merch!
If you are an upcoming Vtuber sensation, then I highly recommend getting your own merch ready to roll out this coming year!
As I mentioned earlier, it is difficult to predict with certainty what trends will emerge in the wonderful world of virtual YouTubers. With so many potential developments that could shape the future of the vtuber industry, including the continued growth and evolution of live streaming platforms, the adoption of new technologies such as virtual reality (VR) and motion capture, and the increasing popularity of original content creation as vtubers continue to explore new and innovative ways to connect with their audiences builds an ever-changing community. Ultimately, the trends that emerge in the vtuber space will be driven by the creativity and innovation of vtubers and their communities.
I for one am really looking forward to finding out what happens next!
