Hoi tasty cookies! Bep bep Bepïn here to talk shop and give UwUs.
So this January, something amazing happened to Bepïn~chan. This Bep found over $500 USD of passive income just sitting in her Vtuber Gumraod account! It was so super Crazy!
You see, Bepïn and Bitsy as BFFs started up a little Ko-fi/Gunmroad shop duo around this time last year to sell and give away fun Vtuber Assets. It was a fun few months of giving away lots of free stuff and practicing my art with one of my favorite people. But then Bitsy got busy and Bepïn got sick…
A few months go by, and we have both completely forgotten about the little project.
2022 really was a bad year for this Bep. (ㅠ﹏ㅠ)
Even though I had a model art+rig, as well as a chibi model art. Bepïn~chan could never debut. . . And the only time I was happy was when I had a Skeb commission to draw. But those are few and far between.
I had felt scared and felt as if my voice is not good enough. So perhaps I would just give up?
But then the New Year Came! (with a big surprise!)
In the new year of 2023, Bepïn~chan happen to decide to make some free bunny ears for her Vtuber Friends! Hopping to have a better year and to draw a lot more <3
It was quite a surprise to log into our Gunmroad shop to find that we made passive income during all last year with Vtuber assets and many people had donated to us!!!
Finding that many many people have enjoyed the free and paid assets we have worked so hard on has given Bepïn~chan a great deal of happiness and motivation!
Thank you sooooo much, Tasty Cookies! Now let this Bep help you out too~
How to Make Money as a Vtuber
Now that I am here as the Vbloger for iiiSekai Studios, Bepïn~chan is happy to share the new ways she had found to make passive money online as a Vtuber without even needing to debut! These are my top ways to make money as a Vtuber, plus best practices:
Digital Assets Shop
looking for a good way to make passive income as a vtuber? My top recommendation is to do just as Bitsy & Bepïn have over on our Ko-fi/Gunmroad shops. Follow along and make a digital shop for free!
You can also use Etsy or WordPress, but those have upfront costs as opposed to Ko-Fi and Gumroad which are both FREE platforms that allow creators and Vtubers to sell digital and physical products and accept payments from their fans. However, there are some key differences between the two platforms:
Purpose: Ko-Fi is primarily designed for creators to receive support and sell products, while Gumroad is more focused on selling products and services.
Features: Ko-Fi offers basic features such as a customizable profile, a shop to sell products, and the ability to accept tips, while Gumroad offers more advanced features such as analytics, the ability to sell subscriptions, offer discounts and memberships, and manage email campaigns.
Fees: Ko-Fi charges a 3% transaction fee plus a 30-cent fee per transaction, while Gumroad charges a 3.5% + 30 cents fee per transaction or 8.5% + 30 cents per transaction if you opt for the optional Premium Plan.
Rating: One thing to note, Ko-fi does not allow any NSFW work of any kind. If you are thinking of going past PG-13 then you may need to stick with Gumroad.
Overall, both platforms have their pros and cons, and the choice between Ko-Fi and Gumroad will depend on your specific needs and preferences as a creator.
Setting up one of these shops is a simple process:
Sign up for an account: Go to Ko-Fi.com or Gumroad.com and sign up for a free account. You’ll be asked to provide some basic information and create a username and password.
Customize your profile: Add a profile picture, header image, and bio. You can also link to your social media accounts and other online presences.
Set up your shop: Ko-Fi has a built-in shop feature that allows you to sell digital products that you can Opt into. Were as Gumroad has the products category set up on login. Both can support a variety of content, such as e-books, digital art videos, tutorials, PNG, PDF, music, and more. To set it up, go to the Shop section of your account and follow the prompts to add your products.
Add payment methods: Ko-Fi and Gumroad support various payment methods, including PayPal, Stripe, and credit cards. Choose the payment methods you want to accept and add your payment details.
Promote your shop: Share your Ko-fi or Gumroad shop on your social media accounts, website, and other online presence. You can also embed your products on your website or add a Gumroad widget to make it easy for people to buy from you on WordPress.
By following these steps, you can quickly and easily set up and start selling your products to your fans.
[Bepïn~chan gives tips: It is very helpful to make many free digital items as well as ones that cost money. You can share the Free ones on Twitter and Reddit easily and it will make people happy!]
Digital Ideas for Passive Income
The obvious choice is to make Vtuber Assets for you and your fellow Vbuddies to use! Things like Stream Overlays, Backgrounds, Fan-Art Emotes, Hands holding a thing, Silly Assecories, or even Virtual food! But hold on, I can hear you yelling from my back pockets now; “Bepïn~chan, I can’t draw like you and your friends. What should I do?”
Fear not, there are many other ways, my Tasty Cookie!
Music: Do you have a pretty voice or a predilection for playing with MIDI software? Or perhaps you are really good at an instrument? Make copyright-free background music to be used in Live streams and Youtube videos! People will love LOVE you for that~
E-books: You can also write and sell e-books on any topic you are knowledgeable about. Bepïn~chan thinks that creative writing about your Vtuber lore could be fun! Or fan-fic… ˚ʚ♡ɞ˚
Online courses: If you have expertise in a particular field like Rigging or Livestreaming, you can create and sell online courses to teach your Vbuddies something useful.
Software or apps: You can sell software or apps that you have created. I am sure there are some very helpful apps you could make for us Vtubers!
Other audio files: You can sell other non-music audio files that you have created, such as podcasts, silly sound effects, spooky stories, ASMR, or um… you can do something more “onlyfans”.
Photos or stock footage: You can sell photographs or stock footage that you have taken if you live someplace cool and want to share. Though IDK how many Vtubers will be into the real-life thing.
Physical products: Gumroad also supports selling physical products, such as books, t-shirts, and other merchandise.
Services: You can sell services, such as consulting or coaching, through Gumroad.
Physical Merch Shop
The digital world not going it for you? Well, how about a shop to sell physical products for passive income? This usually needs a personal website, like we use here for our merch shop, or Etsy account. Both will have more upfront cost and overhead but if you already have an established fan base, then Bepïn do recommend it.
Setting up an Etsy shop is a simple process:
Sign up for an Etsy account: Go to Etsy.com and sign up for a new account. You’ll be asked to provide some basic information, such as your name and email address.
Set up your shop: Once you have an account, go to the Shop Manager and click on the “Open Your Etsy Shop” button. You’ll be asked to choose your shop language, country, and currency, as well as provide some basic information about your shop.
Add products: In the Listings section of your shop, you can add your products by clicking on the “Add a Listing” button. You’ll need to provide a product title, description, price, and photos.
Set up payment methods: Etsy supports various payment methods, including credit cards and PayPal. You can set up your payment methods in the Payment section of your account.
Customize your shop: In the Settings section of your shop, you can customize your shop’s appearance by adding a banner and profile picture, as well as customizing the shop’s policies and other details.
Promote your shop: Share your Etsy shop on your social media accounts and other online presences, and consider using Etsy’s promoted listings and advertising options to reach a wider audience.
By following these steps, you can quickly and easily set up an Etsy shop and start selling your products to the millions of shoppers on the Etsy platform.
Physical Merch Ideas for Passive Income
Have a skill in handy crafts? Or a really big fan base? Then this may be your ticket to making passive income as a vtuber. Best of all, you can even commission us here at iiisekai to help make your new merch!
Unique Hand Made items: One-of-a-kind handmade items would be a great way to make your fans feel special!
Standee: An acrylic or 3D printed Standee of your Model is a popular item to sell in the Vtuber community.
Stickers: Everyone loves your face, so let them put it on their favorite water bottle!
Keychains: Commission a nice piece of art and let your fans wear it around town~
Enamel Pin: These are BIG sellers, but also a big investment. Be sure you know what you want before making a lot of 100-500 pins to sell, haha!
Poster & Prints: Ok, not many people buy these. But if you are of an 18+ Vtuber then you may find it lucrative.
Print-on-Demand: A good option for those who want to make mugs, t-shits, and other large items. The best part of POD is that drop-shipping is a true form of passive income that any Vtuber can take advantage of. Meaning, it is low cost of entry and you don’t need to lift a finger once it is all set up!
Plushies: Much like the enamel pins, these are BIG sellers, but also a big investment. Great idea for if you have a cute animal friend with your Model!
Pillows: Lewd body pillows to be exact. . . ˚ʚ♡ɞ˚
[Bepïn~chan gives tips: It is very important that any art used for merch is art that you own Commercial Use Rights for! It is illegal to use art commissioned from Skeb for commercial purposes. Please be careful.]
There are plenty of other ideas out there for your physical Merch that can bring in monthly passive income. If you are at that point where you are ready to make an online merch shop around your Vtuber brand but are still unsure of where to start, then please do reach out to my fellow iiisekai team members, here!
♡ Our (non-Bepïn) Professional Services Team would be more than happy to help with any art, website building, book publishing, and merchandise needs you may have! ♡
Well, that’s all for now, Tasty Cookies. Hope this helped you find the right solution to your passive income needs as a Vtuber. It sure has given this Bep a few more ideas for her shop!
